As a storyteller of traditional tales from the British Isles and Appalachia, with a special interest in magical, supernatural, faery, Jack Tales and Traveller stories, I’ve worked in schools, colleges, festivals, theatres and arts centres all over the British Isles, Europe, America, Hong Kong, India and Japan.
For a number of years, I was storyteller in residence at Groombridge Place, a moated manor house on the Sussex/Kent borders. While there I set up and ran the Conan Doyle storytelling theatre, England’s smallest professional theatre (two inches smaller than the ‘smallest’ theatre in the Guiness Book of Records!).
As a BBC researcher, collector, scriptwriter and presenter, I travelled around the British Isles, from Sussex to the Western Isles, and across to Northern Ireland, collecting from and interviewing traditional storytellers.
My collection of magical tales from Kent and Sussex, The Dancing Fox, as told at Groombridge Place, is due for publication in 2024.
